Natural Healing Methods to Improve Health   Recently updated !

According to People magazine, Olivia Newton-John is using natural therapies to supplement her cancer treatment. She does massage, meditation, and yoga – healing methods that “keeps her spirit positive.” So do a lot of other well-known personalities like Toyah Wilcox.

Another natural healing technique that is being used to heal a variety of conditions from musculoskeletal problems to depression insomnia and infertility is acupuncture. Aromatherapy, Ayurvedic medicine, chiropractic, and reflexology are also classified as alternative or natural healing practices.

Of course, you don’t have to be suffering from a medical condition to try alternative therapies. If you want to improve your physical or mental health, you can try these five natural healing methods.

1. Meditation

MeditateMeditation can change brain physiology to delay ageing. Those who regularly meditate have more grey matter and have longer telomeres.

Telomeres are like aglets. You know, those plastic or metal tips on shoelaces.

They are found at the ends of the chromosomes and keep them from fraying and sticking to each other. Cells that have too short telomeres eventually die or become prone to diseases such as cancer.

Another benefit of meditation to physical health is its effect on the cardiovascular and immune systems. Since meditation can induce relaxation, it can help lower blood pressure through the release of nitric oxide. Meditation can also boost immunity through shifts in gene expression.

Meditation also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. This is when your body lets go of stress (sympathetic nervous system) and its natural healing abilities can then manifest fully.

2. Exercise

Happy ExercisingExercise is a therapeutic agent. It offers so many physical benefits from reducing blood pressure to increasing metabolism to counteracting osteoporosis.

Plus, exercise doesn’t have to mean going to the gym. Brisk walking and doing household chores, especially gardening count as exercise. In fact, studies have shown that outdoor activities are more beneficial than one that takes place indoors. You want to aim for activities that increase your heart rate every day.

3. Acupuncture

The idea of regular acupuncture treatment for improving physical health may be too out there for some people. But many happily take their car in for a regular service. Think about it – your car can be replaced by another one if lack of service shortens its life. What about you …..?

But as we’ve mentioned before, people in the East do this to keep illnesses at bay. In fact, in olden days, acupuncturists will often give free treatments if their clients develop a new health problem during the course of getting regular acupuncture. They are that confident.

Acupuncture is also great if you want an energy boost that lasts. This is because it can help reduce symptoms that leave you feeling drained such as headaches, nausea, and back pain.

4. Environment Modification

Healthy EnvironmentSometimes, you feeling out of sorts isn’t because you haven’t been exercising enough or eating right. It could be your environment that’s to blame.

A damp home, for example, will contribute to the growth of mold and mildew. These are a no-no especially for people who have asthma and allergies.

The good thing about it is there’s an easy fix for this. You can get dehumidifiers such as these, fix leaky taps and damaged roofs, and install gutter guards.

Newly painted surfaces in the house, new furniture and carpets will emit chemicals (you can smell it) that different people will be sensitive to to varying degrees. Especially those with respiratory problems. Having good ventilation is the first step to diluting these chemicals. Certain house plants will also help, according to the NASA. Here is an easier to read list to the plants that will help.

5. Diet Therapy

Just by changing your diet, you can improve your physical health. Think about those who have heart disease or diabetes.

No doctor will just prescribe medicines. They will definitely recommend adopting a healthy diet and leading a healthier lifestyle so patients can better control their condition.

Of course, if you don’t have a medical condition, it doesn’t mean you should indulge in fatty foods and empty calories. You want to maintain your good health by eating right and doing right by your body.

Not to push acupuncture again but when your energy is more balanced through acupuncture treatment, you will actually want to eat foods that are good for you! Ones that have nutrients that are specific to your needs. So you will find it easier to eat healthily without needing great will-power.

Unfortunately, the converse is true and an out of balance body will crave foods that either are bad for your health or will put on the pounds.
